Effective communication of project activities and results is a substantial element of Interreg project funding in order to facilitate an exchange of experiences within the programmes and beyond. Therefore, besides the concrete project work, communication and public relations work are important aspects for projects and should not be neglected. In order to support projects with this task and to guarantee the highest possible standard in public relations work the Joint Secretariat usually offers at least one seminar per programme call.

On 7 and 8 March 60 communication managers of Interreg BSR projects met for such a seminar at media docks in Lubeck, Germany. Invited by IB.SH Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein, Managing Authority and Joint Secretariat for the Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme, staff members of aconium joined the event to catch up with the latest recommendations and requirements that will directly be used in the LowTEMP (Low Temperature District Heating for the Baltic Sea Region) project.

The communication seminar addressed managers in Interreg BSR-projects approved within the first and the second call. During the two-day event, participants were provided with information on the programme and current guidelines.

Main goal was to improve communication work within the projects. Starting with specific characteristics of transnational project work participants received guidance on strategic communication in order to effectively address their target groups. Dealing with partners from different countries was an important issue on the seminar agenda as well as basics in project communication, amongst others roles and responsibilities, transparency and reporting. The workshop lessons offered training in modern conference concepts and communication tools.

Furthermore, the seminar was an opportunity for networking and informal exchange between the participants from different projects and the Joint Secretariat. Attendees discussed and passed on best practices and successful examples from different projects.

Within (LowTEMP) aconium is responsible for project management, financial management and communication management. LowTEMP aims to make the district heating supply in the partner regions Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden more sustainable and to promote the installation of so-called “4th Generation District Heating Networks”.
