Last Friday the broadband expansion project in Arneburg (Altmark) started with an official ground breaking ceremony after several years of challenging preparation time. Together with the District Administrators Carsten Wulfänger and Michael Ziche, the mayors of the communities of the joint board Broadband Altmark laid the first couple of meters of empty ducts. They are basis for a future-oriented and efficient fiber-optic network. In cluster one of the rollout area, approx. 2500 households will be connected via 370 km of fibre optic cable. The funding programme of Saxony-Anhalt will support the region with four million Euros, said state secretary Thomas Wünsch of the Ministry of Economy, Science and Digitalisation. The broadband roll out in the whole area of Altmark is expected to be completed by 2019.

The joint board Broadband Altmark is a model region of MOROdigital, the action programme “Demonstrating Projects of Spatial Planning” of the Federal Institute for Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Research. aconium accompanies eight selected model regions as a transfer agency during the implementation of their broadband plans until the end of this year.
