As part of the BMEL project Smarte.Land.Regionen, the Fraunhofer Institute IESE has created a comprehensive online information service. The aim is to support rural districts with digitalization and specifically with the development of their digitalization strategy.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (Fraunhofer IESE) offers a comprehensive toolset to support the digitalization of German rural districts. This resource package was developed as part of the Smarte.Land.Regionen model project of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

The website toolset-landkreise.digital website offers tried-and-tested knowledge and experience for the digital transformation, including the creation of a digitalization strategy. The target group includes digitalization officers, mayors, project managers of smart city and smart region projects and other interested parties from local government.

The online toolbox contains information on various topics, such as strategy development, organizational structures and capacity building. Furthermore, the online offer provides insights into best practices in various fields of action, such as mobility, health and care, society and volunteering as well as work, education, environment and climate. A glossary and handouts for download complete the offer. All materials are available online and are intended to support those responsible in the districts in shaping digital services of general interest.
