On October 9, Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Steinbach, presented the strategy paper 1.0 @GigabitBB30 on fiber optic expansion. The roadmap drafted by the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs defines the state’s goals: These are to develop an implementation-oriented plan for nationwide gigabit expansion by the end of 2025.

The expansion should then be completed by 2030. The white spots are to be prioritized for expansion. Like the federal government, Brandenburg is also relying on private-sector expansion. However, the state also wants to use more funding than ever before to relieve the burden on districts and accelerate the expansion of the digital infrastructure where it is not economically viable. In addition to state and federal funding, there is also special support from the EU’s Just Transition Fund (JTF). The Lusatia region in particular benefits from this European fund.

According to the strategy, this is a key task for the district authorities responsible for fiber optic expansion to ensure targeted cooperation between all stakeholders. In addition to the obligatory industry dialog, there is also the so-called quarterly “broadband information round”. The OZG line portal, which is currently being developed, will also enable approval procedures to be processed digitally and thus significantly faster.
