It is an expansion project that is shaping an entire region: With the help of state and federal funds and the municipal contribution totaling around 102 million euros, the district of North Saxony has created over 44,000 new gigabit connections. This means that over 40,000 households, more than 3,200 companies and almost 440 institutions, including 71 schools, are now fit for the gigabit society. The district is thus creating the best conditions for a strong economy, civic participation and modern education.

The district of North Saxony plays an important role in this. It bundles municipal interests in broadband development and coordinates all necessary steps for the preparation and implementation of infrastructure projects on behalf of the municipalities.

The commissioning ceremony in Oschatz was attended by Saxony’s Minister of State Martin Dulig, District Administrator Kai Emanuel, Mayor of Oschatz Andreas Kretschmer and our Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller.

This expansion project is made possible by the joint investment of the federal, state and local authorities: the federal government is supporting the project with around 65.3 million euros via the federal broadband subsidy. The state is supplementing this with a further 26.8 million euros. The district still has to make its own contribution of around 10.2 million euros.
