Hesse wants to increase the pace of subsidized broadband expansion and is focusing on self-built expansion. In addition, approval processes are to be shortened – also thanks to aconium´s geoinfo system.

How can my municipality successfully expand its own broadband network? Mayors and district administrators in Hesse who are faced with this question can now find answers in a new publication from the Hessian state government. The recently published guide is entitled “How municipalities can support their own broadband expansion”. It is aimed at municipal decision-makers and is available online via the Hesse Broadband Office.

In the opinion of Hessian Digital Minister Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus, self-business broadband expansion is an important instrument for making the best possible use of the grey-spot program, as she writes in the foreword to the guide. Many companies and investors are currently entering the market. They are a great opportunity for the municipalities and could accelerate the expansion of fiber optics. The guide shows municipalities in concrete terms how they can drive forward their own expansion and support companies in the expansion. It serves as a practical decision-making aid for municipal decision-makers. Geoinformation platforms are a key element that can be used to speed up planning and approval processes.

With GigaMaP(www.gigamap-hessen.de), Hesse also has this planning and monitoring tool. The heart of GigaMaP – the so-called geoinformation system (GIS) – was developed by aconium GmbH. Citizens, companies and initiatives involved in broadband expansion in Hesse can use it to query broadband and mobile network availability at the selected location and differentiate between different technologies.
