More and more households, companies and organizations in Germany are benefiting from the subsidized gigabit expansion. This is exemplified by the 15 positive funding decisions handed over, 14 groundbreaking ceremonies and six (partial) start-ups that took place in October as part of the federal broadband funding program.

The 44 associated expansion projects alone will provide over 85,000 previously underserved connections with gigabit bandwidth once all construction work is complete, including around 75,000 households, over 8,000 companies and almost 800 institutions, including 471 schools. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) is supporting these projects with around 201 million euros from the federal broadband funding.

With this funding as well as supplementary state funding programs and the municipal contribution, the BMVI, the states and the municipalities are jointly creating the basis for nationwide and future-proof broadband coverage and thus paving the way for the gigabit society.
