What does the future of public services look like? The question can be answered in one word: digital! But on closer inspection, it is of course not that simple, as the latest issue of “KOMMUNAL DIREKT” highlights.

Digital services of general interest – in current debates about the greatest challenges and opportunities in our municipalities, this is the buzzword of the hour. After all, without access to digital services provided by the state, socio-cultural participation for people in our society is hardly conceivable, and in the not too distant future it will even be impossible, as the specialist magazine “KOMMUNAL DIREKT” writes in its latest issue. This means that anyone who thinks about services of general interest in a contemporary and future-oriented way quickly realizes that access to goods and services such as electricity, water or education alone is no longer enough. Nothing works without the addition of “digital”.

The process of digitization offers creative answers to (infra)structural problems, especially for rural regions: compatibility of family and career, the possibility of working from home, participation in culture, access to medical care, securing local supplies and public transport in sparsely populated regions, to name but a few. Digital services of general interest therefore go beyond simply providing households and companies with broadband.

But how can local authorities respond quickly to the challenges? The solution lies in cooperation between government agencies and socially active people, groups – and companies like atene KOM. We advise and support municipalities in the digital transformation in order to quickly and efficiently provide digital services of general interest. Our team of urban and regional planners, technicians, lawyers and various experts in the fields of mobility, energy, education and sustainability enables municipalities in rural areas to successfully meet the challenges of providing services of general interest to meet the needs of citizens in the 21st century.
