On November 4, the InKoMo 4.0 office and the Baden-Württemberg Association of Cities and Towns hosted the 7th Match Making event on the topic of “Digital mobility in rural areas”.

The future of mobility is digital and enables services that are geared towards the needs of citizens. As a form of mobility, local public transport is the decisive factor in meeting the mobility needs of rural areas and ultimately ensuring equal opportunities with urban areas. However, citizens in rural areas are still too often dependent on their own cars to reach desired destinations. Electromobility offers enormous potential for demand-oriented and environmentally friendly mobility in rural areas. The decisive factor here is an integrative approach to future-oriented mobility, in which various forms of electric mobility, on-demand transport and car sharing are understood as complementary to the public transport network. In order to face these challenges of the future together and to act in the spirit of the mobility transition, various selected Baden-Württemberg companies from the mobility industry were represented alongside numerous municipal representatives from the state. Potential partnerships and opportunities for cooperation were explored through mutual exchange.

Special guest of honor at the event was State Secretary Sabine Kurtz MdL (Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection in Baden-Württemberg) with a guest contribution on mobility in rural areas. The Baden-Württemberg Association of Cities was represented by Gudrun Heute-Bluhm (Managing Director).

The successful event impressively demonstrated this: The challenges facing electromobility stakeholders and municipalities today are the opportunities of tomorrow. Facing the mobility challenges of the future together and improving people’s quality of life in the process will enable cities and municipalities to take on a pioneering role.

The aim of InKoMo 4.0 and the 7th Match Making event in particular is to make existing approaches and projects in the mobility industry visible, to bring together concrete solutions with municipal needs and to disseminate these widely. To this end, participants were given the space and opportunity to exchange ideas, network and initiate innovation partnerships.
