The results of the workshops were used to produce the white paper “Smart Cities & Regions Bavaria: Challenges and Opportunities for Digital Transformation in Bavarian Local Authorities”, which, in addition to providing a basic description of the status quo of digitalization in Bavarian municipalities, also highlights development potential in terms of how digital change can be advanced more effectively and more evenly across the board in the future. Although funding has a high innovation potential for advancing digitalization and thus acts as a driver for the further development of digital activities, one of the key findings from the workshops is that the funding framework needs to be adapted to the needs of the municipalities in a more targeted and effective manner in terms of its structural design. In addition, the results paper also sees considerable potential in the centralization of digital services and tools as well as supra-regional cooperation to promote the level of digitalization in Bavarian municipalities. Following on from this, overarching recommendations for action are formulated, which are primarily aimed at political decision-makers and call for more digital leadership at ministerial and municipal level. The white paper will also be presented to the state ministries of the Free State of Bavaria.
In cooperation with the Smart Cities & Regions platform of Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern (ZD.B), aconium GmbH invited selected multipliers from the regions of Franconia, Swabia, Lower Bavaria, Upper Palatinate and Upper Bavaria to virtual “Smart Cities and Regions Workshops“. The aim of the workshops held in spring was to identify the individual challenges and needs of the participating municipalities based on their level of digitalization at the time in order to formulate needs-based, but also generally applicable digital offerings, networking opportunities and recommendations for action for political decision-makers.
