It is the first complete commissioning in the subsidized gigabit expansion of the broadband supply association in the district of Ravensburg and an important milestone in the fiber optic supply of the entire district: over 300 households, 14 companies and 3 institutional customers in the municipalities of Eichstegen and Boms are now supplied with gigabit bandwidths to the building (FTTH). This makes them pioneers in the district when it comes to sustainable and high-performance broadband supply.
Together with the 39 towns and municipalities in the district of Ravensburg, the Zweckverband Breitbandversorgung is currently building a future-proof fiber optic infrastructure throughout the district. By 2030, every building in the association’s area is to be supplied with a direct fiber optic connection right into the building. Now that the association has almost completed the backbone network in the district, it is driving forward the gigabit expansion in the individual member municipalities and will primarily be responsible for leasing the network in future.
The special-purpose association is currently managing 62 approved applications with a total funding volume of 226 million euros from the BMVI broadband funding from the federal government – making the district-wide expansion one of the largest overall projects in the federal broadband funding program.
At the same time, the Ravensburg special-purpose association is a member of Komm.Pakt.Net, an independent municipal institution under public law. A total of 231 towns and municipalities from eight districts in Baden-Württemberg are members of this association. The common goal is to connect every private household, every commercial area and all municipal facilities within the network area with fiber optics. The members hope that the network will provide them with a more attractive network area and cost benefits.
Representatives of the municipality, the district and the special-purpose association for broadband supply in the district of Ravensburg as well as Mirja Junge from the aconium regional office in Stuttgart took part in the commissioning ceremony.
The aconium Infomobile of the “Future Journey” was also on site, demonstrating the possibilities offered by a nationwide broadband Internet connection. Equipped with the latest digital technology and its applications, the Infomobile presents, among other things, the capabilities that broadband networks already have today and will have in the future. Interactive simulations, explanatory films and videos, presentations and much more are available to visitors on digital flipcharts, tablets and notebooks. How good is the cell phone network in the region? A telepresence robot demonstrates new, active communication options in companies that are only possible with a broadband Internet connection.
