The second Digital Day, a nationwide day of action organised by the “Digital for All” initiative, will take place on June 18. On this day, digitalisation will be made tangible and understandable with a wide range of digital offers on the topic of “digital participation”. As last year, people will be brought together around digital topics (especially virtually, of course).

This year, special attention is once again being paid to the “Awardfor Digital Togetherness”: the award, which is endowed with a total of 20,000 euros and is presented in the categories “Digital Participation” and “Digital Commitment”, is being sponsored exclusively by aconium GmbH for the first time. Non-profit initiatives for digital participation can now apply for the award.

Prizes in two categories

The “Digital Participation” category recognises projects that contribute to ensuring that all social groups can benefit from the digital transformation and that all parts of society can participate in the digital world. We are looking for projects that enable digitally disadvantaged groups to escape from the digital sidelines and help all members of society to move confidently and safely in the digital world.

The “Digital Engagement” category recognises new forms of engagement in the digital space. We are looking for projects that use digital technologies in innovative ways to improve and expand civic engagement or open up completely new ways of engagement with the help of digital technologies.

The jury

After the application deadline, an independent jury will select which projects will make it to the final and decide on the winners in the two categories. The judges include renowned personalities from civil society, religion, politics and business, including Franziska Giffey, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, and Julia Klöckner, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture.

Application criteria

The “Award for Digital Togetherness” is intended to recognise the commitment of those who actively promote digital participation or harness the digital transformation for civic engagement and give visibility to such projects.

Applications can be submitted by individuals or groups who are committed to using digital technologies or are committed to digital participation and are oriented towards the common good. Furthermore, only projects that have already been successfully launched and are designed for long-term, continuous engagement are eligible to participate. Initiatives that primarily pursue commercial or self-economic purposes are excluded.

Eligible individuals, groups, initiatives, non-governmental organisations and non-profit organisations can apply until the end of April.

Applications can be submitted online at www.digital-miteinander.de. The deadline for competition entries is April 30, 2021.
