The smallest operator model in Thuringia launched its broadband expansion in the district of Sömmerda with a ground-breaking ceremony on August 26. With the help of federal funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), the EUR 10 million investment project will connect 2,860 households, 270 companies and 7 schools with fiber optics, thereby ensuring the competitiveness and future viability of the rural region. A total of 76 kilometers of civil engineering work is required to lay the fibre optic cables.
Thuringia’s Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee, District Administrator Harald Henning, Mayor Hendrik Blose and Tim Brauckmüller, Managing Director of aconium GmbH, were among those who came together in Buttstädt to mark this important occasion.
