Clear upward trend: Almost half of all households have gigabit connections
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has published the latest report on broadband availability in Germany. It presents the results of data collection as at the end of 2019. The study analyzes broadband availability in Germany for private households and commercial locations across all connection technologies. The results are based on voluntary data provided by telecommunications companies. The current figures show a positive trend in broadband expansion nationwide, both in cities and in rural areas. The availability of connections with over 1000 Mbit/s increased by around 15 percentage points compared to the previous year to over 43%. This means that almost half of all German households have gigabit connections. The survey was carried out by aconium GmbH on behalf of the BMVI.
