Germany needs qualified specialists to drive forward the expansion of the grid quickly and in a future-proof manner.
The “Skilled workers for fiber optic expansion” initiative now aims to ensure that the shortage of skilled workers is stopped quickly. A total of 28 players, including telecommunications companies, the Federal Employment Agency and numerous associations, including from the construction, electrical trade, electrical industry and education sectors, are part of the new initiative. The participants will first identify specific bottlenecks and derive options for action, which will then be implemented gradually and swiftly. The initiative thus supports the German government’s plan to accelerate the nationwide expansion of fiber optics in Germany. The shortage of skilled workers in fiber optic expansion ranges from qualified personnel in the expansion companies to a lack of planning capacity in the building authorities and bottlenecks in planning and engineering offices. Tim Brauckmüller, Managing Director of aconium: “The shortage of skilled workers is one of the key challenges in an increasingly fast-changing global economy. For this reason, aconium GmbH supports further education and training, as well as quality management in the sense of lifelong learning.”
Glasfaserausbau.org – more than just an Internet platform
Part of the new initiative is the new internet platform https://www.glasfaserausbau.org. It offers an overview of the diverse, nationwide training opportunities and provides information for companies and employees. This makes the new Internet portal the central point of contact for all important information on the topics of training and further education for skilled workers in the fiber optics industry. Gigabit lines are the backbone of a modern society in Germany and Europe. For this reason, career changers, school pupils, trainees and students in particular are encouraged to enter the fiber optic industry. Above all, the aim is to encourage young people to learn in these areas, to subsequently take up an industry-specific profession, to get ahead and thus create new opportunities. The professions advertised not only offer new entrants in particular a wide range of varied prospects, but also particularly good opportunities for promotion. With just a few clicks, network operators, installation and civil engineering companies can also find the right training for their employees. In addition, opportunities are shown for companies or municipalities to get involved in fiber optic expansion and thus participate in one of Germany’s key future projects. Anyone already working in the field of fiber optic expansion will also receive important information on qualification and further training opportunities. “It’s not just about building quickly, but also sustainably. This applies to buildings as well as telecommunications. With the new platform, we want to get young people excited about a modern career,” emphasizes Tim Brauckmüller.
