It is one of the largest expansion projects of the federal broadband funding program: in a total of 23 infrastructure projects, the Enzkreis district is fully committed to fibre optics and thus to the future. Over 48,000 households, around 2,300 companies and almost 50 schools will be supplied with ultra-fast Internet. With a ground-breaking ceremony in the municipality of Straubenhardt, the first expansion area has now entered the hot phase: the digital transformation of the entire region has thus begun.
Among those attending the ground-breaking ceremony were Parliamentary State Secretary Steffen Bilger, members of the Bundestag Katja Mast and Gunther Krichbaum, members of the state parliament Stefanie Seemann and Erik Schweickert and District Administrator Bastian Rosenau.
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) is supporting the expansion project in Straubenhardt alone with around 11.7 million euros from federal broadband funding. In total, the BMVI is providing the Enzkreis with funding amounting to almost 170 million euros for all 23 infrastructure projects as well as more than 1.3 million euros in consultancy funding. In addition, there are state funds and the local authority’s own contribution.
