There was good news for the Hessian Odenwald district and the Odenwald Gigabit Gesellschaft (OGIG) in February: The federal government is funding the gigabit expansion in the region! Almost 200 guests gathered in Erbach in the Odenwald district of Hesse to celebrate the handover of the €100 million funding decision.
The notification was handed over by Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs. The event was attended by District Administrator Frank Matiaske, representatives of the Hessian State Chancellery and the twelve mayors of the Odenwald municipalities. The expansion project will enable around 16,000 gigabit connections in the Odenwald district thanks to federal funding, including 14,325 households, 1,587 companies, four schools and 17 other socio-economic focal points.
With a total volume of 200 million euros, it is the project with the highest approval amount in the federal funding program Gigabit 2.0. Hesse is funding the project with 80 million euros, with its own funds amounting to 20 million euros. The tender for the construction work is due to be issued this year.
