The municipality of Wichmannsdorf, in the Brandenburg region of Boitzenburger Land, is being supplied with ultra-fast fiber optic connections (directly to the buildings). The expansion project was launched on September 22, 2020 in the presence of Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer and Tim Brauckmüller, Managing Director of aconium GmbH, among others.

As part of the Uckermark district’s second broadband expansion project – which includes today’s ground-breaking ceremony – 10,453 households, 83 companies and 96 institutional users, including 52 schools, will benefit from gigabit connections of at least 1 Gbps. The federal government is contributing 77.8 million euros. In addition, there are 47.9 million euros in funding from the state of Brandenburg and around 4 million euros from the district itself.

A total of more than 1,500 kilometers of civil engineering work is planned as part of the construction measures.

Following the completion of both broadband projects in the district, a total of 11,719 households, 331 companies and more than 110 schools will receive FTTB gigabit connections. The federal government has approved a total of 82.6 million euros for both projects. This is the second largest project in the federal state of Brandenburg.

To date, the federal government has approved funding of more than seven billion euros for the ongoing broadband expansion in Germany.
