aconium, panel discussion at the North Sea Climate Conference.

Employees of aconium GmbH discuss strategies against climate change with stakeholders from the North Sea region and develop project ideas for interregional cooperation

This year’s conference of the Interreg North Sea Program took place on 25 and 26 June 2019 on the Swedish island of Marstrand. It was hosted by the North Sea Commission and the Västra Götaland region. Together with actors and stakeholders from seven countries – Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden – ideas for the future of the partner regions were exchanged and strategies for a resilient North Sea region were developed. A working meeting on the first day of the conference offered stakeholders the opportunity to present their projects and activities and discuss them with other interested parties. In addition, the participants were given an outlook on the last outstanding call of the current funding period. Representatives of the secretariat presented possible design options and then discussed various solutions with the participants. Initial ideas for possible new projects were also presented. The topics ranged from hydrogen infrastructure to recycling and vacancy management. The second day of the conference focused on the transnational exchange on how to reduce CO2 emissions in the partner regions on the one hand and mitigate the effects of climate change on the North Sea region on the other. Plenary lectures and discussions as well as workshops took place with the involvement of experts and young people from various regions of the North Sea region. Among other things, governance aspects, climate-friendly business models and short-term options for action to counter climate change were discussed.
