On October 13, 2022, aconium GmbH opened a new branch in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
As part of the opening ceremony, aconium Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller and Regional Office Manager Henri Haxhiraj welcomed the 50 or so guests attending the event, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Energy of Albania, Belinda Balluku as well as the German Ambassador to Albania, Peter Zingraf, and other heads of division and department and representatives of German and European institutions.
After the Albanian subsidiary was founded in June of this year, aconium has now successfully commenced operations in the heart of Tirana.
The aim of aconium’s commitment is to support the public sector in Albania and the other countries of the Western Balkans as a competent, independent and neutral partner in matters of digitalization, energy, mobility and education and to support them with many years of expertise and experience.
Future market Western Balkans
In the run-up to the establishment of the office, aconium supported a study to analyze and determine national market potential as part of the so-called “Berlin Prozess”. The process, which began in Berlin in 2014, promotes the rapprochement of the Western Balkan countries with the European Union and their accession to the EU as well as the intensification of regional cooperation. The study “The Digital Leap. How COVID19 Transformed the Digital Future for the Western Balkans” was conducted in cooperation with the Center for Southeast European Studies at the University of Graz under the direction of Prof. Dr. phil. Florian Bieber, aconium and other companies.
“The study has confirmed that a clear majority of citizens in the Western Balkans want to continue using online services even after the pandemic. In order to enable these online services, such as digital education, e-government and much more, a robust digital infrastructure is required, especially in rural areas. We look forward to accompanying and supporting the progress of digitalization in the Western Balkans together with other stakeholders,” said Tim Brauckmüller, Managing Director of aconium GmbH.
