Many new technologies such as automated driving, Industry 4.0 and digital business models rely on the nationwide availability of high-speed internet. For many municipalities, high-performance internet is particularly important if they want to remain competitive and liveable in the future. Fast Internet has a major influence on how attractive a region is for citizens and companies. It represents an opportunity for productivity and value creation. It is also a basic prerequisite for people to be able to benefit from the advantages of digitalization and participate in society – be it through personalized education and healthcare services or digitally organized local transport. For companies, access to fast internet enables the introduction and use of new technologies, such as cloud computing, to make everyday working life much easier, more transparent and more efficient. In short: faster internet makes companies competitive and fit for the future. In the new video series “DEUTSCHLAND DIGITAL! Success Stories of Digitalization”, aconium GmbH visited companies and municipalities throughout Germany that have introduced digital processes and thus made digitalization a success by improving the quality of life of citizens, simplifying the everyday working lives of employees and strengthening Germany as a business location. In addition, the video format is intended to raise awareness of the digital transformation and sensitize municipalities and entrepreneurs to the topic of digitalization. In the first part of our video series, we visited Steel Service Krefeld GmbH in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia. With the help of data glasses (AR), employees scan the barcodes on the pallets to immediately transfer important information, such as the removal and storage of products, to the digital goods management system. The simultaneous switch to paperless management enables the company to process orders faster and in a more environmentally friendly way, giving the company a decisive competitive advantage.
