The need for digitalization in all areas of life has not only been evident since the Covid-19 pandemic. The indispensable process of change is progressing everywhere, leading to new structures, mechanisms and technologies. Digitalization no longer only affects traditional IT companies, but rather companies across all industries and sectors.

Many companies initiated the digital transformation at an early stage in order to remain competitive in the long term and to tap into new markets and customers in the face of global competition. Industries and companies that already initiated the digital transformation before the pandemic are now at a clear advantage during the crisis: the changeover often means that operations can continue largely without contact. One of these forward-thinking companies is the architecture firm TerraMeta from Alsdorf near Aachen in North Rhine-Westphalia. It creates three-dimensional scans of buildings and their surroundings. The evaluation and results from the scanner data form the basis for subsequent visualization and documentation. Measuring existing buildings with millimeter precision used to be a time-consuming process for planners and architects. The 3D laser scan from TerraMeta 3D Laser Service shortens the process to just a few hours with less manpower and greater accuracy. Instead of using a folding rule, laser pointer, pencil and old plans, a building is measured inside and out by just one person using laser scanning. The result is a modern measurement using a 360-degree panoramic image and video. When superimposed, the result is a view of the building that is accurate to the millimeter. Even complex spatial structures can be reproduced in the highest level of detail. The advantages for customers are obvious: the use of laser technology minimizes costs compared to conventional surveying. In addition to legal certainty, this method also ensures rapid and efficient implementation of the survey. And during the pandemic, there is virtually no personal contact during the surveying work. In the video series “DEUTSCHLAND DIGITAL! Success stories of digitalization”, aconium GmbH visits companies and municipalities throughout Germany that have introduced digital processes and thus made digitalization a success. This improves the quality of life for citizens, simplifies the day-to-day work of employees and strengthens Germany as a business location. Our video format is intended to raise awareness of the digital transformation and sensitize municipalities and entrepreneurs to the topic of digitalization. The film was shot before the start of the pandemic.
