• Efficient and resilient digital infrastructures are critical in times of major challenges
  • Ukraine relies on digital solutions from aconium for broadband expansion
  • aconium develops broadband information system to support infrastructure expansion

The war in Ukraine is also a major burden for the country’s digital infrastructure. Their performance and reliability are critical for all areas of society, especially in times of great challenges.

aconium therefore continues to stand by Ukraine as a competent partner and, together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine (MDTU) and the EU4DigitalUA project, is implementing a broadband information system for the Ukrainian broadband expansion.

At the FTTH Conference 2022 in Vienna, Andrii Nabok from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine called on the European broadband industry to support Ukraine in securing and expanding its digital infrastructure. He emphasized the cooperation with aconium: “Together with aconium and the EU4DigitalUA project, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine (MTDU) is developing a broadband information system. It is the basis for a large number of planning processes in the context of broadband expansion, infrastructure development and much more.”

With the GIS Hub, aconium’s geographic information system, the Ukrainian government can find out at any time exactly how far broadband expansion has progressed and where there is room for improvement.

The interactive maps of the GIS Hub show the available bandwidths in the individual Ukrainian regions. This allows areas in need of expansion to be identified in real time. The portal also allows end customers to check the available internet speed of their provider and connection. In the future, telecommunications companies and other users will also be able to upload their own geodata to the portal in order to visualize the current status of broadband expansion for the whole of Ukraine on a daily basis.

The aconium GIS HUB is helping the Ukrainian government to protect its digital infrastructure and achieve its gigabit target even in this crisis: The country wants to provide almost the entire population with gigabit bandwidths.

The broadband information system for Ukraine will be provided as part of the international technical assistance project “Interoperability, e-Services and Cybersecurity”(EU4DigitalUA) funded by the European Union and implemented by the e-Governance Academy(eGA). In addition, aconium is working with the eGA to develop a process that checks the uploaded geodata using a digital signature and links it to an existing eGA system. This will ensure that the data presented is legally correct for the entire country.

In February 2021, the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation announced a corresponding tender as part of an EU project. aconium was awarded the contract as the most convincing application.

Geoinformation is the basis for a wide range of planning processes in broadband expansion, infrastructure development, intelligent mobility services and many other areas of application. With the aconium GIS Hub, Ukraine is relying on a digital solution that has proven itself many times in practice. With the GigaMaP Hessen, the Broadband Information System Schleswig-Holstein (BISH), the Data Information Portal Rhineland-Palatinate and similar projects in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (BIMV) and Thuringia (TIM Thuringia), aconium can already demonstrate successful use cases.
