Gigabit expansion in the federal states continued to make great strides in April. This is reflected in the 39 decisions handed over, 17 ground-breaking ceremonies and 2 start-ups in 11 federal states that were carried out in April as part of the federal Gigabit funding program.
The associated expansion projects alone will create over 19,000 new gigabit connections once all construction work is complete, including over 13,000 households, almost 1,700 companies, a good 150 schools and 40 other institutions.
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) is supporting these infrastructure projects alone with over 135 million euros from the federal government’s gigabit funding. In addition, there is a good 83 million euros from the funding programs of the federal states and the municipal contribution of a good 27 million euros.
Together with the supplementary state funding programs and the municipal contributions, the federal government, the states and the municipalities are thus jointly creating the basis for nationwide and future-proof broadband coverage.
For the expanding municipalities, this high-performance digital infrastructure means a lasting strengthening as a business location, sustainable services of general interest for their citizens and the best conditions for a successful digital transformation.
