With the help of the federal government’s gigabit funding, the digital infrastructure is to be expanded in all parts of the country. In the past two months, 31 funding decisions have been handed over and expansion milestones reached in 28 projects in aconium’s area of responsibility as part of the federal government’s broadband funding programs in August and September.

These expansion projects alone will create almost 160,000 new fiber optic connections: This means gigabit bandwidths for over 135,000 households, more than 20,000 companies and around 1,400 institutions, among others.

The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) is supporting these infrastructure projects with a total of over 239 million euros from the federal government’s gigabit funding. As far as the federal government is aware, this is supplemented by around 130 million euros from the funding programs of the federal states and a municipal contribution of around 50 million euros.

For the expanding municipalities, this high-performance digital infrastructure means a lasting strengthening as a business location, sustainable services of general interest for their citizens and the best conditions for a successful digital transformation.

In this way, the federal government, federal states and local authorities are jointly creating the basis for nationwide and future-proof broadband coverage and thus for more participation, more opportunities and more progress for everyone.
