Gigabit for all! This goal is also being achieved in Germany with the help of federal gigabit funding. This is demonstrated by the 32 decisions handed over and expansion milestones reached in 16 projects in atene KOM’s area of responsibility, which were carried out in July as part of the federal government’s broadband funding programs.
These expansion projects alone will create around 14,000 new fiber optic connections: This means gigabit bandwidths for over 11,800 households, more than 2,000 companies, 124 schools and 109 other institutions, among others.
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) is supporting these infrastructure projects with a total of around 60.7 million euros from the federal government’s gigabit funding. This is supplemented by around 38.2 million euros from the funding programs of the federal states and the municipal contributions of around 22.2 million euros.
For the expanding municipalities, this efficient digital infrastructure means a lasting strengthening as a business location, sustainable services of general interest for their citizens and the best conditions for a successful digital transformation.
In this way, the federal government, federal states and local authorities are jointly creating the basis for nationwide and future-proof broadband coverage and thus for more participation, more opportunities and more progress for everyone.
