The gigabit expansion in Germany made great progress in May. This is reflected in the 86 decisions handed over and nine construction starts in aconium´s area of responsibility, which were carried out last month as part of the federal Gigabit funding program.
The associated expansion projects alone will create over 205,684 new gigabit connections once all construction work is complete, including more than 400 schools and over 870 other institutions.
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) is supporting these infrastructure projects alone with over 859 million euros from the federal government’s gigabit funding. In addition, there is a good 385 million euros from the funding programs of the federal states and the municipal contribution of a good 224 million euros.
The role of the federal government’s new gigabit funding, the so-called Grey Spots Program, also became clear in May. With around 388 million in funding in aconium GmbH’s area of responsibility, around 133,000 new gigabit connections can be realized for households, companies, institutions and socio-economic drivers.
Together with the supplementary state funding programs and the municipal contributions, the federal government, the states and the municipalities are thus jointly creating the basis for nationwide and future-proof broadband coverage.
For local authorities, this high-performance digital infrastructure means a lasting boost as a business location, sustainable services of general interest for their citizens and the best conditions for a successful digital transformation.
