Following the ground-breaking ceremony at the beginning of April 2017 as part of the federal funding for broadband expansion, the commissioning of the first construction phase in the district of Neuwied/Rhineland-Palatinate was celebrated around four months later on August 11, 2017. Political representatives from the municipalities involved were present in Datzeroth and confirmed the benefits of the expansion.

The obligatory starting signal was given at the cable junction in the form of a symbolic push of a button. Günter Frenz, municipal policy advisor at aconium GmbH, informed those present about the background to broadband expansion in the district with its 162 districts. He emphasized the higher quality of life for the population that would result from fast Internet. Frenz also emphasized the importance of broadband expansion as an important location factor for local companies and their competitiveness.

The District Administrator of the Neuwied district, Rainer Kaul, praised the federal and subsidy programs, without which it would not have been possible to provide small villages like Datzeroth with fast Internet and eliminate the white spots.

To enable the broadband expansion, a total of 70 kilometers of fiber optics were laid and 40 distributors were installed. The network expansion, funded by the federal and state governments with a total of 10.1 million euros, provides around 1,800 households with faster connections, 121 of which are in Datzeroth.

This marks the completion of the first of eight construction phases in the district of Neuwied, from which the villages of Waldbreitbach, Kirchspiel Anhausen, Kleinmaischeid and the Hönningen districts of Girgenrath and Reidenbruch will now also benefit from high-speed Internet in addition to Datzeroth.
