When people meet today, they increasingly do so in virtual space. Having a digital network and being able to get in touch with others online are now important prerequisites for participating in social life. However, not everyone in our society has access to the so-called new media. Many – especially older – citizens need help using smartphones or the internet.

As part of the second Digital Day on 18 June 2021, the “Digital for All” initiative – a broad alliance of social, economic and political organisations – is therefore awarding the “Award for Digital Togetherness”. Committed groups have until April 30 to submit their projects.

The award is sponsored exclusively by aconium GmbH for the first time and is endowed with 20,000 euros. The prize is awarded in the categories “Digital Participation” and “Digital Commitment”.

Who can apply?
In the “Digital Participation” category, the “Digital for All” initiative is looking for applicants who make it possible for digitally disadvantaged people to escape digital exclusion. These important projects in particular help to ensure that everyone in our society can navigate the digital world in a self-determined and secure manner.

How can we use digital technologies to strengthen civic engagement in our society? In the “Digital Engagement” category, the initiative honors projects that provide a convincing answer to this question and thus show completely new ways of social interaction.

Who decides the winners?
The independent jury includes personalities from civil society, politics, business and religion. For example, inclusion activist Raul Krauthausen is one of the jury members, as are Federal Minister for Family Affairs Franziska Giffey and Federal Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner. Together, they will decide which projects make it to the final and who comes out on top in the end.

“Digital for all” – who is behind it?
How can everyone in Germany benefit from the digitalisation of our living environment? This is the question being addressed by the members of the “Digital for all” initiative. Behind it is a broad alliance of 27 organisations from civil society, culture, science, business, welfare and the public sector. With numerous activities on the annual Digital Day, they shed light on the many aspects of digitalisation and contribute to the social debate.
