The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has so far approved funding of more than seven billion euros for the ongoing broadband expansion in Germany. In the last two weeks alone, fifteen municipalities have benefited from more than 203 million euros in federal funding.
Broadband expansion in Germany is continuing: twelve expansion projects have been launched in recent days. Klipphausen in the Saxon district of Meißen kicked things off on Monday, September 21, 2020. On Tuesday, the groundbreaking ceremony for the second-largest broadband project in Brandenburg took place in Wichmannsdorf in the district of Uckermark. Also on Tuesday, broadband expansion began in St. Ilgen, a district of Leimen in north-western Baden-Württemberg, and in the Märkischer Kreis in Kierspe (North Rhine-Westphalia). In Baden-Württemberg, four groundbreaking ceremonies took place on Wednesday, September 23, 2020: In the Rhine-Neckar district in the municipalities of Ketsch and Sandhausen, in Rickenbach in the district of Waldshut and in Rastatt.
On Thursday, in the Hofäcker industrial estate in Bermatingen, the groundbreaking ceremony set the course for the digital future.
In Moers, construction work for the nationwide fiber optic expansion began on Friday, 25 September 2020.
Work continued on Tuesday, 29 September, with a groundbreaking ceremony in Hirschberg an der Bergstraße. On September 30, another groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Märkischer Kreis district in the towns of Iserlohn and Menden.
Three commissioning events also took place: On September 21 in Kranenburg on the Dutch border, on September 23 in Blumberg in the Schwarzwald-Baar district and in Staßfurt in the Salzland district on September 29, 2020.
