nöGIG- our network. Our future. Apply and become a winner of the Broadband Europe Awards 2017!
The nöGIG 3-layer open access model in Lower Austria is one of five winning projects of the European Broadband Awards 2016. The project is an excellent example of the implementation of an open access broadband infrastructure that enables non-discriminatory network access for third parties. It implements a 3-layer open access model with point-to-point FTTH networks in underserved rural areas, creating attractive prices and a wide choice of service providers for residential and business customers.

The partners in the nöGIG project built regional community partnerships, separated the layers (3-LOM) and concentrated on the infrastructure. Construction only began after the demand from end customers had also been bundled. A financing model was set up at the very beginning of the project and processes were established for the planning, construction and maintenance of the passive infrastructure. The development of a standardized passive infrastructure, the creation of quality documentation and the use of synergies (road, water, construction and geodata management) contributed significantly to the success of the project.
The project won the European Broadband Awards 2016 in the Openness and Competition category.
Do you think that your broadband expansion project should be presented to a wider audience?
