aconium is providing the federal state of Hesse with its leading and proven geodata platform for the development of a forward-looking digital information, planning and monitoring portal for the gigabit expansion (“GigaMaP”). The corresponding contracts for the geographic information system (GIS) at the heart of the system between the state of Hesse, ekom21 – the state’s municipal IT service provider – and the digitisation service provider aconium were signed on 30 June in the presence of Digital Minister Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus during a live video conference .
The aconium GmbH geoinformation system integrated into GigaMaP enables all citizens, companies and initiatives involved in broadband expansion in Hesse to query broadband and/or mobile network availability at the selected location and differentiate between different technologies. Further advantages of the system will be automated network expansion planning, the implementation of relevant approval processes and the monitoring of expansion projects in Hesse. GigaMaP also displays existing infrastructures such as fibre optic lines, main distribution frames and mobile network locations.
Hesse’s Digital Minister Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus: “With GigaMaP, we will provide citizens and businesses in Hesse with a powerful tool that can be used to easily and reliably query the available broadband infrastructure on site.”

The GIS module was developed by aconium, a leading service provider in the field of digitisation. Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller: “We are delighted that the Hessian state government is using our high-performance geodata system, which we have developed together with specialized partners throughout Europe and are constantly expanding and optimising. With our many years of expertise – especially when it comes to working with the public sector – we will provide GigaMaP with a flexible and, above all, reliable centerpiece.”
The GIS system from aconium GmbH has been used successfully in Schleswig-Holstein since 2017 for the state’s own “Broadband Information System Schleswig-Holstein” (BISH). Hesse has now also opted for the powerful and modularly upgradeable geodata platform from aconium GmbH via its municipal IT service provider ekom21, which will replace and significantly expand the previous “Hessian Broadband Information System” (hesbis).
aconium GmbH, with eight locations in Germany, has been a valued and respected partner of the public sector for many years and, among other things, is responsible for handling the federal broadband funding programme as a sovereign project sponsor.
