On behalf of the Wiedtal and all 162 districts near Neuwied, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the digital infrastructure in the region took place today in Waldbreitbach, in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate.
State Secretary Randolf Stich (Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior), District Administrator Rainer Kaul and Barbara Hoffmann, Branch Manager at aconium GmbH, Günter Frenz, Municipal Policy Advisor at aconium GmbH, as well as Mayors Werner Grüber and Michael Mahlert were on site and lent a hand themselves. Coordinators Manfred Rasbach and Dr. Michael Rudersdorf, who are managing the project, were also delighted with this important milestone for connecting to a fast digital future.
At the subsequent celebratory event in the community center, which was completely packed with around 100 people, those involved emphasized the importance of the funding for the region. Mayor Gruber emphasized how important a comprehensive supply of broadband connections is for the town as a location factor in view of the current urban and metropolitan exodus.
The expansion project in the district of Neuwied will provide 162 districts with high-speed Internet in future. Over 10,400 households and more than 2,000 companies, as well as educational, healthcare and community facilities and 52 administrative facilities will benefit from the high-speed access. The project is being funded with 5.6 million euros as part of the federal funding program, with the state of Rhineland-Palatinate providing additional funds. Today’s ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of an offensive by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for further expansion measures for digital infrastructure.
