Bad Mergentheim – The network expansion in the Main-Tauber district continues to progress. On August 1, construction work began on expansion area 5, which was brought forward by commissioning an additional civil engineering company. At the ground-breaking ceremony in Bad Mergentheim, the Mayor of Bad Mergentheim Udo Glatthaar, District Administrator Reinhard Frank (Main-Tauber district) and Dr. Veit Steinle (Branch Manager of aconium GmbH) were among those present.
In expansion cluster 5, 49 modern street cabinets will be newly installed or supplemented with the latest technology. To this end, around 49 kilometers of fiber optic cable will be laid or pulled into existing empty conduits. Civil engineering is required over a total length of 32 kilometers. If everything goes according to plan, 8,200 households in Bad Mergentheim and Igersheim will be able to use the fast connections by the beginning of next year.
Lord Mayor Udo Glatthaar has longed for the starting signal: “It’s finally starting. The inhabitants of the region can hardly wait. Fast Internet is becoming more important every day and is taking up a rapidly growing space in both private and business life. ”
For District Administrator Reinhard Frank, the grid expansion is “a very decisive step” for the district “The densely knit district-wide fiber optic network strengthens the foundation on which we can make our district and its municipalities fit for a successful future. The rapid increase in digitalization has enormous significance for our social and economic life. We can now take advantage of the associated opportunities “, explained Frank.
In construction sections 1 and 2 of the district – Tauberbischofsheim, Werbach-Wenkheim and Creglingen – civil engineering work is already in full swing. Around 20 kilometers of fiber optic cable have already been laid. The start for expansion area 3, Weikersheim and Niederstetten, will take place this month.
The expansion should be completed by the end of 2018. By then, a total of around 47,190 households and businesses in 18 towns and municipalities will have high-speed internet.
