The district of Cuxhaven is benefiting from the federal broadband funding program: On April 26, 2021, State Secretary Enak Ferlemann handed over a funding decision in the provisional amount of 2.25 million euros to District Administrator Kai-Uwe Bielefeld: This brings the district a big step closer to its goal of nationwide coverage with gigabit internet.
“Around 97% of all households in Cuxhaven already have a gigabit connection today, and in the district of Cuxhaven the figure is already almost 60%,” says State Secretary Enak Ferlemann. “With federal broadband funding, we are ensuring that both urban and rural areas receive the best digital infrastructure.” In concrete terms, this means that a further 272 previously underserved households in the district town of Cuxhaven, the small town of Otterndorf and the municipality of Neuenkirchen can be provided with future-proof gigabit internet. The district is thus successfully pursuing its goal of a nationwide expansion with ultra-fast Internet.
The current funding decision is part of the larger-scale broadband expansion: the district of Cuxhaven is receiving a total of over 4.3 million euros in provisional federal funding for five expansion projects, which will connect numerous companies and schools with ultra-fast gigabit connections in addition to underserved households. The BMVI is funding half of the costs via the federal broadband funding program.
