A travel delegation consisting of entrepreneurs from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and representatives of aconium GmbH led by Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller discussed current issues relating to the digitalization of administrative processes (e-government) in the Estonian capital of Tallinn on 11.12.2017.
The main aims of this trip were to learn more about the experiences of local companies with the topic of e-government and its framework conditions, as well as to strengthen contacts with Estonian entrepreneurs. The knowledge gained should be used to exploit the potential for greater digitalization in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and provide impetus for the implementation of an e-government system in the federal state.
The industry exchange took place in the e-Estonia Showroom, an internationally frequented event center where the latest trends and products in digitalization are presented. Last Monday, representatives from the management level of Estonian industry leaders spoke about the power of digital transformation, the diverse applications of blockchain technology (decentralized database that is expanded chronologically in a linear fashion) and the importance of in-process communication in the transition of the administration to fully digitalized processes.
Challenges at a political and legal level were also an important topic of discussion. The German delegation was particularly interested in the adaptability of the X-Road approach used in Estonia. Based on the principle of streamlining login and identification processes based on the one-time registration of personal data and thus significantly faster access to administrative services, the X-Road is a technical structure in which data is stored uniformly and can be used by various (administrative) services. During the excursion to Tallinn, the participants of the German delegation were able to intensify their contacts with company representatives who play a decisive role in e-government in Estonia through presentations and discussions.
The company representatives from the north-eastern federal state and the employees of aconium GmbH returned to Germany with new ideas on this topic as well as suggestions on how the digital transformation – in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in particular and in Germany in general – can be successfully continued.
