SmartUp Accelerator – Innovation Ecosystem to foster consumer cleantech markets in the Baltic Sea Region

The Project

In an effort to address the current global climate crisis, there is a growing interest in consumer clean technology, which aims to reduce the environmental burden of consumption related to resource scarcity, rising energy and fuel costs, digitalisation and automatisation. Cleantech start-ups began to emerge in the consumer market to foster a more sustainable consumer behavior through the use of environmentally friendly packaging or energy saving devices.
Increasingly more companies have begun to address the challenges posed by resource scarcity, rising energy and fuel costs, digitalisation, automatisation and user-centred design through consumer cleantech. The SmartUp Accelerator project helps exploit arising business opportunities in consumer clean technology for SMEs, startups and intermediaries in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) by shaping models for networking, partnerships and cultural cooperation.
The SmartUp Accelerator project launches a transnational consumer cleantech innovation ecosystem driving the BSR’s level strategic and operative partnerships and new commercialised innovations. The project triggers networking and cooperation, training programmes for intermediaries, small and medium sized enterprises and start-ups. It creates strategic and operational partnerships between organisations and stakeholders and strengthens knowledge and awareness of consumer cleantech within the innovation and investor scene. All this is being gathered within a model, or network, called the SmartUp Accelerator.

Goals

SmartUp Accelerator is a collaboration project between seven countries around the Baltic Sea that aims to build consumer cleantech ecosystems, activating innovation actors (i.e. intermediaries, investors, large companies and startups) and fostering new skills and businesses that reduce the environmental burden of consumption.
