On September 11, the groundbreaking ceremony for the nationwide expansion of high-speed Internet in the Heidekreis was held in a festive setting.
The event was attended by Agriculture Minister Christian Meyer, State Commissioner for Regional Development Jutta Schiecke, District Administrator Manfred Ostermann and the two members of the Bundestag Lars Klingbeil and Kathrin Rösel, as well as Managing Director Jörn Maurer of Heidjers Stadtwerke and Stefan Molkentin, Branch Manager of aconium GmbH, the project sponsor for the federal broadband funding program.
The expansion of the fiber optic network in the supply area of Heidjers Stadtwerke begins with one of the main routes from Wintermoor to Schneverdingen. In total, fiber optic routes of approx. 160 km in length and hundreds of fiber optic house connections are being built. In his speech, Agriculture Minister Christian Meyer once again emphasized “the importance of digitalization and the development of rural areas, which must not be left behind when it comes to digitalization”. He added: “The foundation stone for fast internet connections – in the interests of equal living and working conditions – is being laid with today’s ground-breaking ceremony in the district of Heidekreis.”
Managing Director Jörn Maurer of Heidjers Stadtwerke explained in his speech that the company was very grateful for the funding award, as this was the only way to expand the high-speed Internet in the Heidekreis district. At this point, Maurer once again expressly thanked the employees of the Heidekreis district, the state ministry and aconium GmbH involved in the process for making the funding approval possible despite the administrative obstacles.
