The SmartUp Accelerator platform, an offshoot of the Interreg Baltic Sea (BSR) SmartUp Accelerator project, brings together ambitious smart start-ups, influential intermediaries, established large companies and investors from the consumer cleantech sector in the Baltic Sea region.

As a result of the Interreg Baltic Sea (BSR) SmartUp Accelerator project – a cooperation project between seven countries around the Baltic Sea focusing on the development of consumer cleantech ecosystems – the SmartUp Accelerator Platform has gone online.

The SmartUp Accelerator virtual platform, which was launched in November 2020, brings together leaders in the cleantech sector and opens up new opportunities and powerful collaborations by joining forces across sectors and borders. The first network meeting took place digitally in January. Under the leadership of Chris Ashe, Project Manager at aconium GmbH, the stakeholders agreed on the structure and governance of the network.

The network’s stakeholders include both local smartups and international companies looking to expand into the Baltic Sea region. The platform and network provide access to both public and private organisations interested in promoting innovative and sustainable solutions with high market potential.

For participating organisations, the platform will connect with regional stakeholders and companies, provide information on funding opportunities (focused on cleantech or low-carbon innovation for consumers), identify testbeds for different projects/stakeholders (i.e. European project opportunities) and assist in identifying international partners.

The project’s network also provides access to market studies and research results as well as case studies and trends or market-related information in the field of consumer cleantech across the Baltic Sea Region. Also the exposure at European level and the networking opportunities with stakeholders in the field of consumer cleantech (i.e. digitalisation, low carbon/energy efficiency) as well as European project partnerships make the platform an interesting tool.

The members of the SmartUp Accelerator Network currently include science parks, innovation centers, startups, think tanks, universities, large companies and other agencies from across the Baltic Sea region – for example, aconium GmbH, Johanneberg Science Park, Innovatum, Leningrad Region Industrial Development Center, Enterprise Estonia, BuildIt (Latvia), HubHub and others.
