On November 8, 2022, the German Institute for Broadband Communication – dibkom will award a seal of approval for exemplary broadband infrastructure in school buildings at the district administration office in Haldensleben (Saxony-Anhalt). As part of an audit, three schools in the Börde district qualified for the award of the seal.
An efficient and sustainable broadband infrastructure is a basic prerequisite for modern, digitally supported teaching. Three schools in the Börde district have now been awarded the “Broadband Schools Seal of Approval”. With this seal, the German Institute for Broadband Communication (dibkom) certifies that schools throughout Germany have an exemplary broadband infrastructure. The Europaschule Oschersleben, the Gemeinschaftsschule Wanzleben and the Kurfürst-Joachim-Friedrich-Gymnasium in the district of Börde qualified for the seal as part of an audit.
The “Broadband Schools Seal of Approval” is the first standard in Germany to certify a sustainable IT infrastructure for school networks. It sets minimum technical standards for digital strategies and the expected use of end devices. With this minimum equipment, schools ensure the feasibility of their pedagogical concepts for interdisciplinary and subject-specific education.
Widar Wendt, Head of the Academy at aconium GmbH: “The ‘Broadband Schools Seal of Approval’ is a new initiative that we launched in 2021. We have determined that it is important to set appropriate signals in the education sector and have therefore worked with an expert council to develop a seal of approval for school infrastructures. Important criteria are: The buildings are connected to high-speed internet and have the best technical equipment, the children can work cleanly and safely with the end devices, the appropriate server infrastructure is in place and the schools are ideally positioned for the digital tasks of the future.”
What does the “Broadband Schools Seal of Approval” do?
The school buildings and areas are inspected by experienced inspectors according to minimum criteria.
If the requirements are met, the “Broadband Schools Seal of Approval” is awarded. This certifies the sustainability and future viability of the basic school IT structure. Regardless of the type, size and focus of the school, the seal of approval sets minimum standards for individual technical concepts and the expected use of end devices.
With this minimum level of equipment, schools guarantee the feasibility of their pedagogical concepts for interdisciplinary and subject-specific education through digitally supported teaching. The “Broadband Schools Seal of Approval” is the first nationwide standard for ensuring the basic technical requirements for the quality and sustainability of your school network and is valid for the next ten years.
