With these words, Alexander Dobrindt, Chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, together with Markus Loth, First Mayor of Weilheim, Peter Müller, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Weilheim Energie GmbH, and Tim Brauckmüller, Managing Director of aconium GmbH, ceremoniously put the fiber optic network in Weilheim i.OB into operation on 19 November 2019. With the activation, residents can now benefit from high-speed Internet.

“With the new broadband network, Weilheim is making the leap into the digital future. The federal funding program is investing the funds here in exactly the right way. And Stadtwerke Weilheim made the right decision to apply for funding for the project,” said Alexander Dobrindt. Connecting to high-speed Internet is also a question of equal participation today. That is why there should be no division between town and country, continued Dobrindt.

aconium Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller emphasized how important it is to create equal living conditions and praised the good cooperation between the federal, state and district governments. Local commitment is particularly important, Brauckmüller emphasized. This had been exemplary in the district of Weilheim. He particularly thanked those involved on site: “Special thanks go to the workers who worked tirelessly and at high speed in the summer in the intense heat and in the winter in the cold to complete this project in record time.”

In addition to a good 2.6 million euros from federal funding, around 620,000 euros from state funding and over 3.5 million euros from the municipality of Weilheim i.OB.’s own funds, the federal government is topping up the project with a further 920,000 euros. Over 278 households, 57 companies and 18 facilities such as schools and hospitals will benefit from the overall expansion.
