With the 3,000th „Digitale Dorflinde“ installed at the end of May, the state of Hesse set another milestone in the state’s Wi-Fi funding program. The beneficiary of the funding is the town of Heusenstamm, which was able to put a total of four public Wi-Fi hotspots into operation at Schönborn Castle. By upgrading the Wi-Fi at Heusenstamm Castle, the town is not only improving the digital offering for citizens and visitors at an attractive tourist location, but also strengthening a central administrative location, as the town hall is located in the castle.

The construction of public WLAN locations is an integral part of the state of Hesse’s gigabit strategy and forms a mosaic stone in the state-wide provision of high-performance Internet access. The program thus complements the objectives of the state of Hesse in terms of gigabit and mobile network expansion. The “Digital village lime tree – WLAN funding for Hessian municipalities” funding program gives Hessian towns and municipalities the opportunity to receive 1,500 euros in funding for up to 40 public hotspots. Further information on the program can be found on the WLAN funding program website.
