From 1 to 5 June 2026, Leipzig will once again become a meeting place for everyone who wants to actively shape the digital future of our cities: Data Week Leipzig invites you to a week-long data festival at the New Town Hall, focusing on digitalisation, artificial intelligence and sustainable urban development.
As an interdisciplinary networking platform, the event brings together stakeholders from government, academia, business and civil society. The focus is on dialogue regarding the role of data in creating a liveable, resilient and climate-friendly city. Practical talks, workshops and training sessions provide a space for exchange, new ideas and concrete solutions – particularly with regard to climate and energy issues.
Processing data and communicating it clearly: aconium is offering data workshops at Data Week Leipzig
Municipal data forms the basis for digital services and provides a vital foundation for, for example, understanding the impacts of climate change and developing climate-resilient strategies. As a partner in two EU projects, aconium is working on the development of tools and support services for the public sector, enabling it to build and expand expertise in the field of (open) data and to promote its use. As part of Data Week Leipzig, aconium is inviting local government staff to two workshops and an evening get-together for discussion and networking.
Open Data without Code: Making municipal data easy to use – 1 June 2026, 12:30–14:00
The Open Data Toolbox from the EU project “DoorCE” allows a solution for the entire open data lifecycle to be tested: in the workshop, participants will learn how to upload, licence and publish datasets without significant technical effort. The architecture of the open-source toolbox will be presented – from modules for data preparation through metadata and licence management to interfaces (APIs) that enable real-time data usage. Participants can test the individual steps themselves using sample datasets from the pilot municipalities of the Interreg Central Europe project DoorCE (Data Opener Central Europe).
This workshop and the DoorCE Toolbox are aimed in particular at non-technical staff in public administrations and organisations who wish to learn how to actively shape open data processes and build up knowledge on the subject of open data. In addition to practical application, the organisational and legal framework for data opening will also be discussed: What strategies and governance structures are required? How can the cultural shift towards open administration be successfully achieved?
Speakers: Dilara Sir und Johanna Varanasi
Open-source dashboards for climate resilience and international data use – Hands-on with Apache Superset in the Horizon Europe project GRACE – 4 June 2026, 9:00–10:30 am
The workshop demonstrates how data from various sources – particularly geospatial and attribute data – can be processed and visualised to highlight climate- and environment-related trends. The focus is not so much on the tool itself, but rather on how open data can be used sustainably and communicated in an accessible way. Examples from the Horizon Europe project ‘GRACE’ offer practical insights into the development and use of interactive dashboards in a European context, demonstrating how interactive visualisations are created using the open-source tool ‘Apache Superset’ – from connecting a data source to designing a dashboard. Participants will learn which technical and conceptual steps are required to create data transparency and how visualisation solutions can help link resilience indicators, climate data or socio-economic factors. Participants will gain both technical know-how on visualisation with Superset and ideas on how open data can be used for sustainability, transparency and international cooperation.
Speakers: Daniel Yanev and Elisabeth Fürst
The workshop is aimed at professionals from government, academia and industry who work with data and visualisation, as well as data analysts, open data managers and local authorities wishing to use open tools to promote climate-resilient, data-driven decision-making processes.
On 1 June 2026, from 6 pm, aconium invites all Data Week visitors, as well as open data enthusiasts and anyone interested, to a get-together at Schillerstraße 4. In a relaxed atmosphere, this is an opportunity to continue the conference discussions, make new contacts and exchange views with other participants on open data, local challenges and shared ideas.
