Federal Network Agency publishes strategy paper on the resilience of telecommunications networks
In coordination with the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) published a strategy paper on the resilience of telecommunications networks on September 6, 2022.
The motivation and reason for the publication is the rapidly increasing importance of telecommunications networks in today’s everyday life. Social life, economic processes, healthcare and public safety are largely dependent on telecommunications networks and services, making the reliability of information technology and telecommunications of immense importance to society as a whole.
Even though telecommunications network operators in Germany are prepared for emergency situations thanks to numerous precautionary measures and contingency plans, there is a consensus that the resilience of telecommunications networks should be further strengthened in relation to various threat scenarios and the current geopolitical situation. The BNetzA’s strategy paper, which is primarily aimed at telecommunications network operators and providers of telecommunications services, therefore outlines initial recommendations for action to further strengthen the resilience of telecommunications networks. Building on the recommendations for action, the aim is to continue the industry dialog between the companies, associations and authorities involved in order to agree on measures to strengthen the resilience of the networks.
