New internet portal for Schleswig-Holstein shows broadband infrastructure on an interactive map
Launch of the new internet portal meernetz.sh: Since June 4, 2020, the citizens of Schleswig-Holstein have been able to quickly and easily find out which providers have broadband infrastructure available at their address. This is made possible by a new interactive map, which has been released by the Broadband Competence Center Schleswig-Holstein (BKZ.SH) at the Internet address www.meernetz.sh. The aim of the new portal is to visualise the status of fibre optic expansion in Schleswig-Holstein so clearly that users can make transparent and neutral comparisons between the offers available locally. All it takes is a few clicks on the map to obtain a direct query of the available providers. The map is divided into grid cells measuring 250m x 250m and displays the total number of available NGA and fibre optic networks (Next Generation Access) in the close-up view by means of a number contained in the cells. With a further click, the infrastructure owners can be displayed via a quick query. In this step, it is also possible to display the providers’ offers directly by linking to their websites. Whether municipal utility, special-purpose association or large carrier: all offers are on an equal footing. This allows different offers to be compared transparently in terms of the services they offer. It is irrelevant whether it is a matter of self-service or subsidised expansion, e.g. as part of the federal broadband subsidy. The aim of the portal is to provide a complete and clear presentation of all digital infrastructures in Schleswig-Holstein.
