Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Groundbreaking ceremony for mobile phone mast on behalf of the state
The groundbreaking ceremony of Funkmasten-Infrastrukturgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (FMI) in spring not only laid the foundation stone for the construction of a radio mast between Göllin and Glambeck in the district of Rostock. This event also marked the start of improved mobile communications coverage in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which is to be provided as part of the activities of the state’s own mobile communications infrastructure company. Christian Pegel, Minister of the Interior, Construction and Digitalization of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Birgit Czarschka, Mayor of the municipality of Bernitt, Carsten Watermann, Head of Mobile Network Planning and Expansion Region North at the mobile network provider Vodafone, FMI Managing Director Ralf P. Müller and Tim Brauckmüller, Managing Director of aconium GmbH, as well as numerous other guests came to the municipality of Bernitt to get an idea of the expansion project on site.
The expansion project has progressed rapidly since the groundbreaking ceremony and the mobile communications mast has now been completed. This is another successful step towards better mobile communications coverage in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and in particular for the citizens and businesses in Glambeck and Göllin.
The task of FMI, which was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is to ensure that masts are erected with state funds in regions of the state where mobile network providers do not build masts due to a lack of economic incentive. The FMI can take action wherever a market failure has been identified. Nevertheless, the national company only becomes active when a mobile network provider actually shows a binding interest in a site. This is the only way to ensure that the site can actually provide better mobile phone reception once it has been built. The potential use of a mast erected by FMI is equally available to all mobile network operators.
aconium assists FMI with technical issues and the organization of the expansion, market exploration and further tendering and planning for the construction of mobile communications infrastructures.
