Pact for fast Internet in Bavaria concluded
The Bavarian state government, local authorities and network operators have jointly signed the “Digital Infrastructure Pact” with the aim of expanding mobile and gigabit networks throughout the state. The aim of the agreement is to provide the state with gigabit-level internet by 2025. To this end, fiber optic networks are to be laid right into buildings and the expansion of 5G mobile networks is to be further accelerated. In addition, the framework conditions for the construction of high-speed internet infrastructure are to be further optimized. The key points of the pact include the following packages of measures:
- the creation of a better broadband supply in order to offer an additional 3.1 million households the possibility of a fiber optic connection by 2025,
- a significant expansion of mobile networks with a target of around 8,400 5G expansion and extension measures,
- the development of new technologies, such as the future 6G mobile communications generation,
- the establishment of accelerated approval procedures for the construction of mobile phone masts,
- the use of alternative installation methods for fiber optic expansion to accelerate project implementation
- and an increase in the number of coordinator positions at the Bavarian Mobile Communications Center.
