Project to implement energy saving methods and programme for energy-efficient and nearly zero-energy schools

The Project

Most of the schools in Germany and Europe are being built less environmentally friendly and are characterised by a high and expensive energy consumption, which is not in line with current legislation, the goals of energy efficiency nor the reduction of CO2 emissions. 2IMPREZS will stimulate change in the current situation by fostering both behavioural and technical efficient energy saving measures in existing schools, reducing energy consumption and thus reducing CO2 emissions. For the first time, this project will tackle the whole spectrum of energy efficiency measures: the behavioural, the technical and the financial approaches instead of focusing on one specific field only.
Based on active participation and initiatives of school stakeholders (teachers, students, management), as well as on the project partners’ experiences, 2IMPREZS will create a joint energy saving programme through Energy Challenges in schools and an innovative decision making model, developed, tested and validated incorporating cost-effective educational, technical and financial measures – in addition to the transformation of four schools into zero-energy buildings..
As part of the 2IMPREZS project, schools in Lower Saxony can take part in the international energy-saving competitions “Energy Challenges’’, which are designed to motivate students to independently develop and sustainably implement energy saving measures in their schools. In the context of the Fridays for Future movement, students are in the focus of the project and are encouraged to take responsibility in the framework of a European competition. This allows for the implementation of energy saving measures that will have lasting effects beyond the project lifetime.
Based on the students’ needs and using the experience of the project partners, a road map and an implementation scheme with pedagogical, technological and financial approaches for energy saving concepts are developed.

Goals

The implementation of the project comprehensive transnational strategy will aim to reach 30% energy savings in 141 schools in the North Sea Region, representing an emission reduction of 7320 tons of CO2, and transform at least four schools into nearly zero-energy buildings.

aconium responsibilities

aconium takes over the communication with the schools from the project re-gion. The participating schools are supported throughout the entire project and have a contact person who helps them to implement the Energy Challenges and a sustainable energy reduction. Further, aconium is responsible for the organisation of the local school meetings in order to encourage the transnational exchange of knowledge.
