Thuringia sets course for fiber optic company

On July 21, the Kommunale Energiezweckverband Thüringen (KET) passed a resolution to found the Thüringer Glasfasergesellschaft (TGG). In addition to KET, Kommunale Energie-Beteiligungsgesellschaft Thüringen AG (KEBT) is to become a minority shareholder in the fiber optic company. The purpose of the new company will be to plan and build coordinated, subsidized fiber optic networks for all interested Thuringian municipalities throughout the state. The expansion is to be carried out using federal and state subsidies in the “operator model” so that the passive fiber optic network remains the property of the TGG to be founded. The operation of the networks is to be put out to tender to private telecommunications companies. Further information on the TGG and an FAQ overview of its tasks can be found on the KEBT website (PDF file).
