WLAN funding: State of Hesse approves 2000th “Digitale Dorflinde”

With the 2,000 approved funding notification, the state of Hesse has set a milestone in the course of the state’s own WLAN funding. The beneficiary of the 20,000 euro grant is the national park community of Edertal. It can now set up 20 public WLAN hotspots in the municipal area in order to offer its own business location and local citizens a modern Internet connection, while at the same time being able to market itself to the outside world as an attractive and modern tourist location. 200 municipalities in Hesse have already taken part in the funding program. In total, almost 1,400 hotspots are already in operation, which were set up with the help of state funding. The construction of public WLAN locations is an integral part of the state of Hesse’s gigabit strategy and forms a mosaic stone in the state-wide provision of high-performance Internet access. The program thus complements the objectives of the state of Hesse in terms of gigabit and mobile network expansion. The “Digitale Dorflinde – WLAN funding for Hessian municipalities” funding program gives Hessian towns and municipalities the opportunity to receive funding for up to 20 public hotspots with a maximum funding amount of up to 20,000 euros until the end of the year. Further information on the program can be found on the website of the Hessian Minister for Digital Strategy and Development.
